My Students
My students are high functioning middle school students with autism, as well as students with a multitude of other learning disabilities within the New York City public school system. This year we are having our first ever NEST class. These students will be taking general curriculum courses but also minor tracks to promote self efficiency, self advocacy, and improved social skills. Seeking support from DonorsChoose to provide necessary supplies to improve the students experience!
Thank you for our consideration and support.
My Project
Socializing in middle school is hard enough. Socializing with a disability can be even more challenging. My students are special needs students with autism and other learning disabilities. This year I am designing a curriculum to support their social skills. Including, but not limited to, self advocacy, self care, safety, and interactions with others. These materials will allow the students to learn social skills in a multitude of differentiated manners such as board games, lesson plans, interactive videos. All students need to learn appropriate and acceptable social skills. These materials will give the students accessibility to learning and fostering social skills.
