This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a pre-k teacher at a Title I school. This year, I have noticed that many students do not have oral language. I believe that a dramatic play center will help students develop language. Our students would love the opportunity to engage in dramatic play. Dramatic play offers students the opportunity to have meaningful play.

Our curriculum dives into community helpers and it would be amazing to add dramatic play into their centers so that they can have a better idea of the tasks involved with said community helper.

The dramatic play center will help students explore, use their imagination, and create their own scenarios. The interaction between students offers opportunities for them to socialize, express themselves, problem solve, and expand their vocabulary.

When students are given the chance to have a hands-on lesson, they are engaged and therefore get a better understanding of the lesson. If we are given the opportunity, I would like our students to have a grocery store, doctor or vet office, and a restaurant. Dramatic play will also give our pre-k students the opportunity to learn real life skills and most importantly support socialization.
