My Students

I work with students with learning disabilities in a general education setting. Most of the students on my campus are considered "at risk" and have diverse needs. Many of my students need additional social/emotional assistance beyond the academic setting so they can properly function in a general education classroom.

Although my students have learning disabilities, it does not take away from their hard work.

What my students crave the most are acceptance and understanding. Through support, they will have this.

My Project

Research has shown that academics can be improved when a student's social/emotional state is part of their learning process. I would like to create a "cool off corner" in my classroom to support my special education students. This corner will play as my students safe haven when they're experiencing high levels of stress, on emotional high/lows, and/or need a comfortable space to express themselves. My students need comfortable seats, mindfulness cards, and decor to support their social/emotional health. These items will help guide my students through whatever emotions they are feeling so they can spend more time in their classrooms.
