Social Work Office and Supply Closet

My Project

I was recently hired as the new social worker for grades 9-12. Social work is new to our district and our school site has a collection of students who are at risk due to poverty, minority status, homelessness, and those who suffer from mental health concerns like anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. I am hoping to create a safe space for students to process their trauma while engaging them and their families in pathways that will help them access much-needed resources. This includes both the social work office where I will meet with students on an individual and group basis as well as our supply closet which houses our food pantry, clothing, toiletry, and school supplies for students in need. These spaces are both in need of organization and supplies to get our year off to the right start.

The anxiety materials i.e.

coloring book, markers, and fidget toys will be accessible to students during private meetings as well as during group sessions on friendship and anxiety management. The snacks will also be available to students during sessions.

The clothing rack and storage bins will allow me to organize and display items so that our homeless and at-risk population has easy access when they come to pick out what they need.

Mental health among teens has become a significant concern in schools and I am hoping that this project will help me to bring much needed services to these amazing kids! Kids are more likely to share when they feel like the space they are surrounded by is inviting and calm. Thank you!
