Social Studies is Everywhere in Studies Weekly!

The cost of 25 subscriptions to Second Grade Studies Weekly is $178, including shipping and <a target="new" href="" onclick="g_openWindow('', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

My least favorite subject going through school was social studies, but my 19 second graders beg to read their "Studies Weekly" social studies magazine! I had a boring old text book, but my students have colorful magazines that bring new life to important topics like communities, rights, responsibilities, and history. Every week we read a colorful magazine that through the year covers all of the NC standard course of study social studies objectives. This year I ordered these magazines for my class myself and have seen the difference in the deep understanding of social studies my students have. This class has a better understanding of team work and good character traits because we discuss them weekly during our social studies time. I have noticed a positive change in behavior and sense of self-disicipline this year. My students are more aware of how their actions effect others. This sense of community and responsibility is a very important life skill and it is exciting to see them learning this at such an early age. "Studies Weekly" is written at an appropriate reading level for most second graders and is great to use with my guided reading groups. When they bring their individual magazines home, it also gives their parents a spring board for more discussion at home. I am teaching 20 second graders (last year I had 27) at Lewisville Elementary School in Lewisville, NC. The children I teach come from mostly middle class homes. Most parents are very generous with their time, but don't always have the funds for extra expenses like "Studies Weekly." I hope to get a classroom subscription of 25 donated for next year.
