My students need social studies center materials to practice important skills in a fun, interactive way.
In 3rd grade, social studies encompasses economics, geography, history, and civics. These areas of focus are important in the effort to create more knowledgeable, understanding citizens.
I teach 3 groups of 27 students reading and social studies every day.
These students come from very diverse socio-economic statuses, ability levels and ethnicities. Many of my students are considered ESL (English as a Second Language learners) or are enrolled in Special Education, but spend all or part of the day in the regular education classroom.
I want to allow my students varied opportunities to practice the skills we address in my instruction. These materials will do just that. There are puzzles and games to practice geography, map skills, and economics. The reading comprehension cards will allow my students to practice their reading strategies and learn about history at the same time. The globe will make geography more concrete as we discuss the locations of characters we read about.
As a former special education teacher, I am very aware of the need to provide individualized activities for my students to thrive.
These center materials will help my students advance in their understanding of the world around them.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
