My Students

Our students work hard as they develop their skills and make strides towards accomplishing their goals. The progress our students are making has been phenomenal and proudly celebrated.

The students' excitement and enthusiasm for learning is undoubtedly contagious.

The educators who work with them are inspired to enhance their own skillsets. These students show they care by helping each other in creative ways.

We take pride in our students and find joy in their happiness. As they continue to put forth the effort required to advance despite their disabilities, they realize that they can soar.

My Project

We work with special education students in a Title 1 school. Many of these students lack a safe home environment to learn essential life and social skills. They don't learn how to manage their emotions from parents or guardians and are left to figure things out on their own. Unfortunately, the effects of this lack of home education create problems for them in their immediate and future lives.

We desire to help our students learn social skills in a fun and safe environment through the use of bibliotherapy and games.

We believe that students learn best when they use multiple senses: visual, audio, and kinesthetic. As we read the social stories one-on-one and in small groups, the students follow along. After discussing the stories, students are given opportunities to apply what they have learned with both role-playing and being mindful in real-world situations.

As our learning center takes on the role and responsibility of more students with high needs and negative behaviors, we find that we lack the resources to help these students, as well as ourselves, be successful. We continually strive to better ourselves so our students can in turn, better themselves. Moving toward inclusion means we need to be more efficient and effective as we guide our students to live successful lives.
