This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My project is to teach my students social skills while having fun. All of my students are on IEPs and struggle with social skills. I set up small social emotional skills learning groups where the students get to interact with their peers while playing games or do activities together. I have found that if a child is having fun then it is easier for them to make friends and socialize.
The activities are based on student interest so I picked sporting equipment, coloring, and board games.
This students have to talk to their peers while playing a game. I also picked fidget toys for the students with anxiety so they can focus on that instead of the conversation I’m helping to facilitate.
I have chosen a bunch of activities or items that the students could focus on while talking to a peer. Most items need a partner or it’s group activity. The activities will teach the students cooperation, teamwork, and how to communicate better with their peers. I want to thank you in advance for helping our school community with skills that will last a lifetime.
