My students need sensory items to help them with social and behavioral goals. These materials will not only help me teach more effectively, but will inspire my students to engage in positive social behavior.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at an amazing Title I school where 85% of our students come from a low socioeconomic status. Most of the families I serve have working parents with little or no education. Comprised of mostly minorities, our school has a spirit of unity that shines through. We are a large family nearing 900 students. The passion for learning is felt when you walk through the doors. I work with children with special needs in grades K through 5th. My students are loving and kind and have real determination. I strive to teach them the skills they need to be active participants in our community.
My Project
The students that I work with are working towards achieving social and emotional goals. I plan on using the Mr. Sketch Scented Markers, and Lip Smacker chapstick, and pencils to use as rewards for their hard work. Fidgets such as sensory bead balls are tools to help students focus on lessons rather than being distracted. Jenga, Topple and Head Banz games will not only teach my students turn taking skills, but how to win or lose. Keintic Sand and Orbeez beads will provide for a calming opportunity.
