This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Teaching social skills and self regulation skills is imperative in a classroom. For example, my goal is to utilize the selected books to start conversations about how to make friends. These books will help me break down this skill and teach the behaviors that will help kids make meaningful connections.
Self regulation is another important skill in first grade.
Many students need to learn the skills to deal with emotions such as anger, frustration and confusion. Through these books, students will get to learn how to self regulate when dealing with these emotions.
Overall, I feel that there will be increased engagement and learning when students are taught these skills. I feel excited about having these books in my classroom. After introducing these books at the beginning of the year, I will put them in my classroom library so students can refer to them throughout the year.
