Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Talkative. Eager. Inquisitive. Shy. Outgoing. Adventurous. Driven. These are all words that describe my students. Despite all challenges, they show up daily and are eager to learn. Half of my students are considered high achieving and the other half are hard working in order to meet their goals.
My students are eager to read and talk about what they are reading.
They borrow books from my classroom library and devour them. Many of them have fed off my love of reading and want to take it to the next level by joining our Battle of the Books group. As their teacher, I cannot wait to put even more books in their hands!
My Project
One way to encourage students to read is to provide them with the opportunity to read with their friends. By creating their own book clubs on "Lemons", "I Love You Michael Collins", and "Fish in a Tree", students will be more eager to read the books from cover to cover.
Just like adults like to discuss our favorite shows with friends, students like to discuss their favorite books with their friends.
These book clubs will allow them to take their love of learning to the next level. They will be able to collaborate with their friends to write, perform, and film video projects based on the books.
