My high school is a high achieving, college prep school serving an urban population. Funding for supplies from our district is always an issue so we rely on outside sources to help us implement projects our students need.
The students are very concerned about social justice and it is an over riding topic in the curriculum.
The language arts department along with the library is planning a reading project.
Because of your support the students at my high school will be able to achieve their goals.
My students need 50 copies of "The Hate U Give" to be able to implement a language arts department assignment. There will be several classes reading the same title. The topic the students will be working on is social justice.
Our city has been of national interest over the past few years because of several controversial events.
The idea of social justice is very real to our residents and particularly to the age group represented by my students.
Reading and discussing ideas about social justice will help my students understand and work for the ideal. Involving several classes of students and discussing what they feel and think after reading the book is the first step to working for a common goal.
