This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 9th grade students are extremely passionate and creative individuals who strive to be social agents of change. We are learning about social justice and are in need of classroom books and supplies. They are enthusiastic about sharing their voices and opinions in the classroom!

My Project

Students will be able to take a copy of their book home so that they can read, think about it, and come up with discussion points to talk about with their peers. We will also be using them in class to read together, and students will get time to read silently as well. We will work towards connecting these powerful and relevant novels to real-world issues. Students will then choose a social justice topic that they are passionate about and work on writing a petition, using what they have learned.
