My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds and attend a school that focuses on project-based learning. As such, they are accustomed to working on collaborative projects and taking deep dives into several areas of our curriculum, including literature, history, and art.

My students are at a dynamic age; they inquisitively view the world through lenses that are both curious and magical.

As their teacher, I am constantly exploring new ways to keep them enthusiastically engaged in all that we do. They always bring a lot to the table and never cease to amaze me.

My Project

My students have been learning about social justice issues all school year, often without knowing it. They learned about the oppression of peasants and serfs in feudal Europe, child labor and workhouses in Victorian England, and the treatment of Mayan people during the Guatemalan Civil War. Now it is time for them to take these contexts and expand them into a large-scale project.

Light up the Darkness, is the name of our "shelter-in-place" social justice project.

This is meant to be a culminating project that brings together several themes from throughout the school year. Students will use Roam to learn about homelessness, Just Mercy to learn about incarceration, and Enrique's Journey and The Distance Between Us to learn about immigration.
