Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school has incredible diversity with so many students of color furthest from educational justice. As we work toward providing more equity for those students, we are also striving to have better representation. One of the simple ways we can do this is by having a school library where the books match our students, with more books that represent the races and ethnicities of our students. This library will be intentionally diverse and lead to conversations that promote critical thinking, empathy, and a call to action as we strive for antiracist behavior and interactions in our school.

Through books that empower and inspire, we will engage in social emotional learning lessons in all of the classrooms as we discuss how to move toward antiracism, engage in conversations around systemic racism, and discuss the language they hear used by peers, on social media, and others around them.

These materials will be used in whole classroom lessons, small group activities, and individual learning throughout our school. The workbooks will help us engage in activities to promote critical thinking about the ways we engage with others.
