Social Emotional Support for Students With Autism

Help me give my students access to SEL instruction, calming space, and teacher created visual supports.

My Project

I teach and support middle school students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder. I love their quirky nature and ability to be exactly who they want to be. The students I teach are high functioning however, they have social emotional deficits which interfere with their ability to reach their fullest potential.

The printer, beanbag chairs and other supplies will enhance my ability to support my students in the specialized and general classroom setting.

First, the SEL discussion cards will help me provide instruction and guidance in the area of social thinking and metacognition. Second, the chairs will provide a calming space for my students who are feeling overwhelmed. Third, the printer will allow me to create specific color visuals to support the students throughout their school day and upload data and materials to digital formats. Finally, the tablet will increase my ability to provide accessible materials for students in the general setting and collect data to better inform my teaching and support.
