Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a school counselor in a public elementary school in a high-needs community, my goal is to educate and support my all my students. Unfortunately, many of my students have and/or experienced some form of trauma and/or grief associated to COVID-19. More than ever, social and emotional support is needed for all students. Some students who have been directly affected need more social and emotional support than other students.
Like students around the country, my students are learning remotely from home.
Creating a virtual environment that would allow students to openly express their thoughts and feelings is extremely difficult. Many students are hesitant to disclose much about themselves. They lack resources, including technology or internet, and in many cases they are also sharing living spaces with other family members. Consequently, they lack privacy, I would like to provide a sense of privacy this year as they participate in our small counseling groups using noise canceling microphone headsets. These headset can provide privacy and help them feel comfortable to talk and work in small counseling support groups. Help me create a safe, comfortable and functional virtual space for my students to opening discuss.
My Project
Our school is a Title I elementary school, meaning 95%+ students are from low income households. Unfortunately, and we do not have a budget for any counseling tools like headsets for our small counseling support groups. Your donation would be utilized by many students from 5th to 7th grade Students who will be participating in our small counseling support groups. These specific headsets will allow my students to feel a sense of privacy and ultimately be vulnerable in front of peers to further support social skill development, grief and loss counseling, trauma support, and personal achievement/goal development in addition to behavioral goals with group interventions.
