Social Emotional Learning

My Project

All of my students are either sensory seekers or avoiders, due to their different sensory needs. Some students require tight squeeze ls or tickles to help them calm down. Other students want you to rub their head, hold their hand, go for walks, cover their ears, close their eyes, roll up in a fluffy rug, mouth objects, etc. Some of the kids like to watch color changing lights, feel a warm salt rock, use a weighted blanket, and some even hit themselves. They also love to express themselves through different mediums such as crayons, chalk, dot markers, paint, etc.

Donating to this project will help me to provide sensory comfort and safe ways for my students to express themselves.

The calming cuddle balls will help my students to get some of the sensory input they are seeking, allowing them to calm their bodies and minds in order to learn. It will also provide an opportunity for me to teach some of my students a replacement behavior for when they feel the urge to hit themselves or head bang.

The no spill paint cups, and matching color brushes will help provide a safer way to paint allowing me to work with more than one student at a time when painting. The cups will not only help prevent spills, but will keep the kids from trying to eat or drink the paint. The matching brushes to cup colors will help students learn to match colors, and also teach them not to mix the colors.

Finally, the double sided magnetic letters will act as both a tool to teach upper and lower case letters, but also a sensory tool, and social emotional learning toy, as students will have to share, take turns, and work together to play with the magnetic tiles.
