Help me give my students the opportunity to have a quiet calm space to process their emotions and to give them the tools and supplies necessary for social-emotional learning and growth.
We are a class of 10 students with moderate to severe disabilities. We love each and every individual personality in our class. We are loud, fun, kind, busy, energetic, smart, and sweet!
Our students have a wide variety of abilities and unique learning needs.
I love to watch our class grow and learn together. We work on everything from communication, potty training, and feeding to addition, subtraction, reading, and writing! We work on social-emotional skills, life skills, and behavioral skills as well. We all learn at different rates, but we all learn together as a class!
My Project
It's no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected schools and students everywhere. In my classroom of students with many unique challenges, this is especially true. Remote learning, changes in routines, high-stress levels, and big emotions are just a few of the issues that have reached my classroom. This project aims to give these students some of their stability back and give them strategies to cope with our ever-changing world. I want to give my students the tools they need in order to have social-emotional growth and success.
By donating to our project, you will help to improve social-emotional learning in the classroom.
It will in turn help attention and focus which will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement as well.
My students have a range of severe disabilities and these products I have chosen are specific to their needs. These products will help the students to communicate their emotions and learn what to do when they feel different emotions.
It will give them a privacy cube to calm down when upset. It will give them books that we can read aloud as a class to focus some instructional time on social-emotional development.
The mirrors will help to show students what they look like when they feel different emotions. This will help them to understand and process their feelings and help them stay regulated, focused, and ready to learn.
The pandemic has been extremely challenging for all students, especially students with disabilities. The majority of my students are non-verbal and don't know how to communicate their emotions effectively yet. I plan to use these supplies to help teach them these extremely important life skills!
