This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are resilient! I have 511 students ranging from K3-8th grade. Most of our students (94%) are economically disadvantaged.

After a year of virtual learning, students have returned to school and are eager to learn.

This transition was easy for some students and a struggle for others. Despite the adversities of this past year, my students are ready to learn and be supported by their school.

My Project

Within my first three months as a school social worker, I have been a primary resource for many students that have experienced a difficult transition back to in-person learning. Many students have experienced adversity through the pandemic such as financial hardship or death of a loved one. I am seeing some students develop anxious behaviors that were non-existent pre-pandemic.

With the help of these tools and resources, I can provide a safe space for my students to visit for a break, offer different coping strategies, and promote awareness on their mental health.
