Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students and I are a part of one of the 5 Transformational Zone schools. The goal of a Transformational Zone school is to be a model of support. These schools are designed in collaboration with the Juvenile Welfare Board and the principals and teachers of the five TZ schools. Our goal is increasing achievement for all students with an emphasis on closing the achievement gap and turning around low-performing schools. My first step forwards their achievement is to provide them with social emotional lessons that they will carry with them for a life-time. With your help, I can make a successful impact on 17 bright scholars.

My Project

These books will continue to enhance the classroom culture that I strive to improve everyday for my scholars. Social and Emotional skills often are overlooked and sources are not well provided. These skills are required to help process our young scholars emotions appropriately.

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is essential to teach our future generation.

It is a process through which children acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Often these students will not learn these skills if they aren't taught with fidelity at school. With these books, I will have the resources to build lessons and create a more positive classroom culture.
