Social Emotional Learning Through LEGOS

Help me give my students Build Me Emotions and Creative LEGOs to help them identify their feelings.

My Students

Our school is a public school on the rural part of Oahu, Hawaii. Our school is a title 1 school, which means the majority of our students are in a low income bracket and might even experience homelessness. Our whole school receives free breakfast and lunch due to the families economic struggles. Our class is a Fully Self Contained behavior classroom. There are five students in our class. Every single student in our class has experienced trauma in one way or another. We are currently working in dealing with our emotions and our behaviors. We are looking to have Legos so that we can learn how to work and build things with each other and to learn how to build team work. Also, when we build Legos, it helps us stay calm and helps us stay focused throughout the day. We also build very cool structures and automobiles at the end of our projects! If you could help us get more Legos we would really appreciate it.

My Project

My students struggle identifying their emotions and learning appropriate coping strategies. My students also struggle using appropriate strategies when they are upset, nervous, anxious, and tired. I plan on teaching them all the different emotions by using the Emotions LEGO an Brick sets. After teaching them the different emotions, I will have them practice learning and using appropriate coping skills by working together with each other when building LEGOS together.

My students will benefit by using the LEGO Emotions set by learning and identifying their feelings, and then being able to use appropriate learned coping skills to be able to cope with their feelings.
