Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
High school provides the path to college and career opportunities. My students are a mix of ninth and twelve-grade students transitioning into high school or transitioning out of high school. Many of them are the first ones in their families to achieve this milestone, and they are proud of it!
My students are a mix of mainstream and English language learners aged 14-18 and represent diverse cultural backgrounds.
Although they are culturally different, they share the desire to learn and have opportunities that are often not available in the countries they left behind. Many of my students decided to come to our school because of the nurturing community and the opportunities to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
In my classroom, I strive to provide my students with multiple opportunities to learn, grow and explore while figuring out what path they want to take in life. An important part of this journey includes instilling a love for learning. So together, we try to foster that.
My Project
My students lacked the opportunity to socialize and make friends during remote learning online. Many have expressed missing the social aspects of school the most. Since socialization is key to team building and partnership I'd like to provide an opportunity for my students to socialize with other students as they work in teams to play games. Additionally, I'd like my students to experience joy as they build a community together!
These games will be used during advisory classes to further the socialization and team building that has been in progress since September among my students.
