This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations every day.

Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunches.

Most of my students have limited resources outside of school, so our school may provide their only chance to experience enriching activities.

My goal every year is to create an environment that is warm, safe, and welcoming while maintaining a fun, creative learning atmosphere.

My Project

We are living in uncertain times. The social emotional effect this is having on students is enormous. Helping my students' mindfulness is just as important as their academic learning. The arts can have a unique and practical role to play in developing a more kind and caring society. Art education can also be a powerful force in supporting students’ social-emotional development. For this project I'm requesting books about art for my students.

Students' ability to express themselves through art is very much a healing process.

It’s very necessary that students are able to express themselves in a way that maybe they can’t do verbally, or in a traditional manner. Part 1 of this project will provide them with a creative outlet to share how they are feeling and provide a way to practice self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision making, and relationship skills.

As staying at home has become the norm, I hope my students can use these supplies to cope and express their creativity through surprising artworks.
