Help me give my students a classroom environment to provide student support, care, and help towards one another in regards to their social emotional well-being.

My Project

COVID-19 has made it hard for the students, in elementary school specifically, to resume a kind social community. Students struggle with more than ever to empathize with one another. This causes a struggle during academic activities, group assignments, general communication towards peers, and even causes difficulty when playing a game during recess or gym. The needs I have noticed the most are directed towards instilling in students a respect of others, a notice of differences, and true empathy towards one another. I have requested a multitude of supplies to assist in creating a better classroom for my students. First is a class set of headphones so students can have something of their own to take care of and enjoy a much-needed break from their stress and anxiety. Next is a series of snack items to have throughout the year as we are a low-income school and students can often be hungry throughout the day regardless of breakfast/lunch provided and some candy for holidays, rewards, and activities. Then to encourage group effort academically in the classroom, answer buzzers to enhance small group involvement. In addition to a kind community students need to be responsible for themselves and their areas so, cleaning supplies are needed to make sure students are cleaning up after themselves and respecting each other’s spaces. I also have requested sports equipment specifically for my classroom so they can learn to enjoy fun activities outside of the classroom to create friendships, build trust, and ultimately learn to work together whilst take care of equipment. Above all there is a true need for spreading kindness, so I have requested Post-It chart paper to spread kindness throughout the building for appreciation days, birthday letters, academic encouragement, and overall light to the school environment.
