My Project
Social-emotional learning is a top priority at our school. One of the first steps to making sure students are feeling accepted is having a sense of belonging at our school. We have an area called the "Buddy Bench" on campus where students are able to play with building toys/games to provide a sense of inclusivity for those who are not as physical as others during recess. These games such as Magna-Tiles and Marble Run Super Set will help to promote socialization, and the clear storage bins will help our students to be able to access and clean up these toys and some of our existing items from our Buddy Bench independently. The Buddy Bench area is used during all morning recess time frames and is available for all grades (K-5) daily.
As a counselor, I also go into the classroom to help support students who may need accommodations to help with their learning.
At times, students may need extra support to help them pay attention during lessons or work periods, and the use of weighted lap pads/blankets and mini wobble cushions can help students with calming themselves to better focus on the task at hand.
