My Students
Our first-grade students always walk into the door on day one ready to learn! They are so excited to be at school with peers learning lots of new material. Their enthusiasm is contagious!
Our young students have been extremely affected by COVID.
Many of my students have no idea what a "normal" classroom looks like. Some students were homeschooled last year, some were distant learners, and all had a unique kindergarten experience. They have no idea how a typical classroom should look!
My Project
My students have no idea what a "typical" classroom looks like. Because of this COVID fact of life, I would love to be able to promote SEL (social-emotional learning) with my students.
My students love to read books with diverse characters in them and they absolutely love to write and draw pictures on the ipad responding to texts.
This Donor's Choose project will allow me to provide fresh, exciting, diverse books that promote SEL, as well as allow students to color print their responses to the texts. For example, with the book Hair Love, I would enjoy asking the students to use ipads to write and illustrate a book about their hair after enjoying the read aloud. We would then print the pages and create a classroom book to view all year long.
I have found that most of my classroom books are only of one race and ethnicity. This is why I am requesting mostly diverse books for this project. I want every child to know that he or she is welcome in my classroom!
