My Project

I am writing to seek your support in acquiring a Moxie Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Robot for my classroom in Flint, Michigan. As a special education teacher working with a group of lower elementary students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), I have witnessed the profound challenges these children face, compounded by their exposure to the Flint Water Crisis. The ongoing effects of this crisis have only heightened their vulnerability, making it more critical than ever to provide them with innovative, effective tools to support their development.

The Critical Need for Moxie in Our Classroom

The Flint Water Crisis has left a lasting impact on our community, particularly on our youngest and most vulnerable residents. Many of my students have experienced cognitive and behavioral challenges directly linked to lead exposure, exacerbating the difficulties already associated with their ASD diagnoses. The combination of these factors has created a unique and urgent need for targeted interventions that can address their social, emotional, and cognitive development in a safe, supportive environment.

Moxie, the Social Emotional Learning Robot, offers a powerful solution to these challenges. Designed specifically to engage children with ASD, Moxie provides personalized, interactive experiences that help students develop crucial social skills, emotional regulation, and confidence in a way that is both engaging and effective. For our students at our school, Moxie represents an opportunity to bridge the gap between their current abilities and their potential for growth.

Here are just a few examples of how Moxie can make a significant difference in our classroom:

Social Skills Development: Many of my students struggle with understanding and expressing emotions, making social interactions challenging. Moxie’s ability to engage in conversations, recognize emotions, and respond with empathy can help students practice these vital skills in a non-judgmental, patient environment.
