My Project

Often times haumanā (students) arenʻt provided with a chance to address the way they look and feel and address emotions throughout the school day. These mirrors will help haumanā who may have toothpaste, the morning snack on the way to school, or the effects of sleep to prepare for the rest of the day. First graders are extremely transparent and will not filter anything when speaking with their peers or their teachers. My goal is to make it discreet for them to feel at their best when they begin the day by looking in the mirror if they come to school rushed and haven't had enough time to prepare. Additionally, these mirrors will help students increase a positive outlook on their emotions by being able to look at themselves to remember who they are is important, valued & special.

I'm planning to have a mirror at each door & have haumanā practice saying affirmations about themselves before they enter & leave the classroom daily.

In regards to literacy, students will be able to use these mirrors to practice their phonemic awareness skills, practicing sounds and looking at their reflections. Due to the mask requirements of the covid-19 pandemic students are still experiencing the effects of establishing their sounds and practice is key.

Squishmallow buddies will provide a safe space for them to be able to share what they're feeling & thinking. The comfort of having a stuffed animal to read to, interact with, and have with them will provide comfort as they experience their school day.

The visual art supplies will provide haumanā with more bling to add to their art pieces and help them explore their creativity. Haumanā love earning gem stickers and gems for working at their highest potential!
