Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a Title 1 with a large population of newcomers. Our English language learners and Special Education students struggle to bring snacks and supplies to school. I would like to provide my students with the ability to thrive by providing these necessary items, allowing them to reach their goals as stated in their individualized educational plans. Your help would be greatly appreciated and will go a long way in supporting student learning, social emotional, and mental well-being. I have a student who likes to sit on the floor and do her work instead of on the classroom chairs. When viewing the items I noticed the low chairs on the floor and how it would benefit a few of my students. The flexible seating will allow my students to have a choice that they are agreeable with, and that works for them. During independent work I want my students to relax and be comfortable in their own space. When students are comfortable they feel safe. This allows students to be more engaged in class activities and less confused. The fidgets and manipulatives will allow my students to focus and complete work assignments. The snacks will go a long way in keeping them engaged and happy. With many of my students, it will be the only snack they have for the whole day. These items and more will bring about equity within my classroom. The copier paper will allow me to create graphic organizers, translate into multiple languages, explicit instructions, and differentiated assignments as handouts for my students. By donating to our project you will help to foster equity within our classroom. This will help students to feel comfortable with who they are and what they can be. They will know that their unique difference is what makes them special.
