Social Emotional Learning for 1st Graders

Help me give my students the tools they need, like book box sets, ear muffs, and other things, to regulate and understand their emotions.

My Students

At the school where I teach, most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Due to the financial struggles many of them face, they need extra support and opportunities. We have been fortunate enough to teach in person throughout the pandemic, but it has been far from easy. Masks, social distancing, and virtual learning have all presented their own challenges.

This group of students that I have are incredibly resilient.

They started kindergarten in the middle of a pandemic, but continue to preserve. They come to school full of joy and ready to learn.

My Project

These books and supplies will help teach my students skills and procedures for naming their feelings, identifying how to correctly address the feeling and situation, along with providing calm down strategies they can use to help regulate their emotions.

These supplies will also give my students a safe and productive place to calm their emotions.

Being able to calm down and rejoin the group is a skill that my students are working on daily. The supplies will also be used as incentives for my students to work towards when they have shown that they know how to use the skills that they have learned.
