Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some kids just need a little bit extra or a little bit of something different to help them be successful and learn at school. My students are kiddos with social emotional behavior disorders; they sometimes struggle to regulate their emotions, stay in control of their bodies, interact with others and learn in a typical classroom environment.

Given the right tools and supports, these kind-hearted, funny and smart kiddos can learn and grow just like their peers.

Social emotional learning happens throughout every moment of our day. My kiddos need an environment that is full of sensory tools, flexible seating and engaging materials to promote their successful learning and growth.

My Project

In order to help my kiddos stay focused, they require flexible seating options and sensory tools; these allow their bodies to get just the right amount of sensory input or output so their brains can focus on learning. Flex-Space Wobble Chairs and Balance Ball Seats allow students to appropriately move their bodies while sitting appropriately during learning time.

In order to help my kiddos regulate their emotions safely, they require a calm down area with bean bags, fidgets and cognitive distractions.

In order to help my kiddos engage in academic demands, they require appropriate technology; iPad minis are accessible and essential in promoting independent practice of new concepts.
