Help me give my students more alternative seating/working options through table trays and also materials such as social story cards to help them work on their social/emotional skills!
I teach social emotional learning classes in a high school setting. We need some additional materials such as social skills games and table trays to go along with our flexible seating,
In this Social Emotional Class that I have created and designed, students learn self-advocacy, self-actualization skills and learn their strengths and weaknesses associated with their diagnosis of Autism, Emotional Disability and Other Health Impairment.
We have flexible seating in the room which aides in focus and relaxation in the learning environment. My students are amazing, hard working and deserve a wonderful environment in which to learn the needed coping skills to help them thrive through the difficult teenage years.
We continue lessons about social and emotional health and and a big component of this program is role playing and practicing our social skills. in and out of the classroom.
My Project
My students work on their social and emotional learning skills in a classroom of flexible seating and a variety of learning materials. Having a variety, not only seating, but writing surfaces such as trays to write on, gives students the ability to individualize their learning. Practicing social and emotional skills through group session and role playing allows for practical implementation of these skills. The social story cards and conversation starter packs will assist us in these skills. We are asking for table trays to go along with the flexible seating in our class. We also need additional social games to aid us in practicing our social skills.
When assisting students with Autism, Emotional Disabilities and various other health impairments, it is important to provide not only a safe and comfortable environment for learning emotional skills, but also the materials needed to practice these skills in class.
Flexible seating, various writing surface choices and materials to practice and role play social/emotional learning skills are important when helping these students learn the skills needed to progress in the high school setting and through their transition after high school.
We are asking for table trays to add to the flexible seating in our classroom. We also need additional social skills games for our group learning time. Practicing social skills helps us when we apply them into the real world. Thank you for your time!
