Social Emotional Learning & Art

My Project

My students come from diverse backgrounds. Some of the students come from low-income households while some have family in the military. For some students, this is their first time attending school in-person.

COVID-19 impacted my students' learning as well as their social emotional development.

Many students have trouble expressing and dealing with their feelings and emotions. They also have trouble interacting with each other and handling conflict.

The requested resources will directly help my students as it will help them both socially and emotionally. Art is a great way to get students to express their feelings and emotions in a different way. Integrating art into my instruction will provide students an opportunity to showcase their learning another way. I will be using the resources to have students create themselves in popsicle sticks showing different emotions to role-play different scenarios. I also also be teaching students what different emotions are and how to handle it. In addition, I will have students create "All About Me" posters so their classmates can learn about them and they will have the opportunity to share positive words about themselves to boost their self-esteem while also sharing what their interests are. This will help me better understand each student and connect to each of them. Lastly, many students need a lot of support reviewing previously learned skills like counting in sequence, writing their letters (upper and lowercase), as well as their colors and shapes. The desk plate will be a good resource they can refer to in case they need help with their numbers, letters, shapes, and colors.
