This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello and thank you for stopping by! In my meetings, my amazing students are able to grow their social emotional skills capacity to become the super humans they were destined to be! Students in my community often come from single parent, low-income homes who want the best for their child and the phrase "it takes a village" truly applies here. I have the honor of running small groups at my school site where curriculum focuses on the social emotional well-being of students. During these meetings students are grouped with other students who need to target the same skill and work together with me for 8 weeks developing, practicing and growing!

My ultimate goal is to provide a safe and inviting environment for my students to come and learn social emotional skills that will serve them long after they leave our school.

With these materials, they will be able to interact and build social skills, recognize emotions in themselves and others, and will help our school site really work on developing the whole child. Thank you for being part of my village!

My Project

At a time in our world where things are so uncertain, having a safe space for our students to process it all is crucial. A lot of our students find our school home and feel safer here than in the surrounding neighborhood and it is my mission to create a space where worries can go away. Having a welcoming, non-judgmental space where students can go to express how they feel and to learn coping skills is my goal.

By having these materials in our classroom, my students will have the ability to better express themselves and their emotions, create coping skills that work for them, and see that they aren't the only ones in the world who may feel like they need help.

I want my students to know that they are not alone.

Through the books, I have requested, students can make connections to characters who accomplish great things. Through fidgets and cool down activities, students are able to learn that things will get better if we can relax and focus. Through the motivational posters and displays, students can realize they ARE enough. Through using materials such as white boards and journals, students can begin to name feelings and express how they feel in a concrete manner.
