Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students are increasingly less able to show healthy emotional and social behaviors in the educational setting. Stressors and the inability to self-regulate effectively can impact the success that students are able to attain in school. Connecting students with their own self expression is one way to encourage mental, social, and emotional wellness. Students need the tools to fully express themselves through visual arts.
Students must be explicitly taught skills to help them to succeed in today's educational environments.
Students learn these skills through the exploration of skills, mindsets, and practices that encourage them to develop adaptive techniques. These core competencies of social-emotional learning are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and making responsible decisions.
This project would help children who are working on developing literacy skills to explore and understand social-emotional skills through the use of literature, art, drawing, writing, and sketchbooks.
