Social Emotional, Calming, Cozy Reading Nook

Help me give my students a space created as a calming cozy reading nook to calm down, gain control of their emotions, talk about, and read a social emotional book to address their concerns, feelings, conflicts. and resolutions.

My Project

Help me help my students work on skills to self-regulate in a cozy, quiet corner. There is a myriad of emotions in the classrooms, Some students are quick to anger, or experience anxiety, sadness or depression.. When students become overwhelmed, they will benefit greatly having a quiet and calming area to read a book. This place I hope to create will give the students at my school a place to go that is outside of the classroom. There are eighty-seven percent of American schools that report students are suffering from emotional and social development. In addition, studies show that when students are upset or having a rough time in their classrooms, that it is difficult for them to concentrate and learn. This is one reason why I would like to create a calming and cozy environment for students to feel safe and secure in. In the reading nook, Students will have certain tools to help them cope with these emotions. For example, sequin pillows, stress balls, breathing visuals, liquid timers, visual aids that identify those emotions they are feeling are just a few of the items that I would like to incorporate. By giving my students a calming cozy reading nook, not only will it help them to promote self-awareness, but can empower my students to teak steps towards self-regulation and well-being.
