Social Emotional Calming Corner

Help me give my students tools to learn and grow emotionally through the middle school years. I will create a calming corner with bean bags, arts and books to allow students to begin to manage their emotions.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach Comprehensive Life Skills at a middle school. Most all of my students have an Intellectual Disability and have trouble managing and recognizing their stressors and learning to calm themselves. My students are in my classroom most of the day and it can be stressful to be in the same environment so I want to make a completely separate environment for them to work on calming and learning how to recognize emotions and learn how to manage them. My students come from a lower SES so their parents can’t help fund a calming corner. Thanks for your consideration.
