My students need interesting and fun books that will teach them how to identify their emotions, how to manage their emotions, and how to be good friends to others.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students work really hard to be the best people they can be.
In my small groups and individual sessions, students have the opportunity to learn and practice skills that they will always be able to use.
Through hands-on activities, students learn how to be good friends to one another and how to be good students and citizens. As a school social worker, I work with students of all ages in an urban, low-income school district; our students and staff members work hard to ensure that lots of learning is happening in our buildings. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to teach students the skills they will need to know in order to become successful adults one day. I love how hard my students work to improve themselves and learn appropriate coping and social skills. We always have fun and learn so much. Students with better social-emotional skills perform better academically.
My Project
One of the best ways to reach children and to teach them about self-regulation and social skills is through reading stories. The books that I have requested focus on social and emotional themes such as making friends, anger management, and working hard to be successful.
By reading these books together and participating in discussions and activities about the stories, my students will improve their social and emotional skills.
They will learn how to be good to themselves, their friends, and to the community.
