Predominately lower-income Hispanics make up eighty-five percent of our school. Many live in multi-family homes where extended families share one small house. We are in the highest bracket for free or reduced-price lunch in our district. Our school district gave free lunch to every student through October, to help reduce expenses as we rebuild, due to the natural disaster (Hurricane Harvey). Every single athlete was impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Two days after the worst of the storm, our team started volunteering to local assistance groups such as the Red Cross. Dozens of athletes came up to help distribute clothes, meals, or play with children.
This will allow us the opportunity to play our soccer matches in a full uniform. As of now, we have not been able to play in a complete uniform because our goalie has to bring whatever shirt he has. All of my athletes have jerseys, shorts, and socks except for the goalie.
If we get the kit my goalie will feel a sense of pride.
He would be able to hold on to his uniform for the complete season and not have to feel excluded. Our players will experience a feeling that they've never felt. We want them to gain that sense of pride. One small detail could change the whole array of our school culture and records.
