Soaring with Tradition: Creating Japanese Kites

Help me give my students the materials to create traditional Japanese kites, exploring cultural traditions while fostering creativity and hands-on learning!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Briem's classroom raised $168

This project is fully funded

My Project

This project will provide my high school students with the essential painting materials needed to decorate traditional Japanese kites. While we already have authentic materials like washi paper, bamboo sticks, and string from Japan, we lack the colorful paints, brushes, and markers necessary to bring their kite designs to life.

These painting materials are critical for fostering creativity and enabling students to incorporate traditional Japanese art and cultural symbolism into their designs.

By decorating their kites, students will connect deeply with the rich traditions of Japanese aesthetics, learning about iconic imagery such as cherry blossoms, koi fish, and other cultural motifs. The vibrant colors will allow them to personalize their creations while honoring the history and artistry of Japanese kite-making.

In addition to creativity, these materials will enhance their understanding of how art reflects cultural identity and history. The designs they create will be inspired by their research on Japanese kites and their role in festivals and celebrations, helping students appreciate the significance of these traditions in a tangible way.

Your support will ensure that my students have the tools they need to complete their kites with pride, showcasing their creativity and deepening their understanding of Japanese culture through a hands-on, artistic process.
