Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My energetic and enthusiastic first graders are always eager to explore new learning experiences! My classroom is made up of students with various levels of English development. Every day is a new day to obtain more English into their expanding vocabulary.
My students reside in an urban neighborhood.
There is an 89% poverty level at my school. 100% of the students are able to participate in the free lunch program. Many of our students are bused to and from school. Many of our students face various obstacles that can make learning a challenge. However, our school provides a safe and nurturing environment for students to soar!
My Project
As our school doors are reopening, I would like to provide my students an opportunity to read engaging nonfiction literature. With the excitement of our doors reopening, students need more reading experiences to further improve their reading skills. Our current reading program provides nonfiction reading opportunities, however my students need more support in nonfiction text.
Scholastic News articles will provide my first graders various and engaging opportunities to soar in reading.
Students need more practice with nonfiction text and use reading comprehension strategies to understand what they are reading. Scholastic News provides many engaging articles for students to improve reading skills.
