My Students

My fifth-grade students arrive to school each day excited to learn! Most of my students come from low-income families and all students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Although they may face a variety of personal challenges, they show determination and perseverance as they strive to become successful readers, mathematicians, and scientists.

In my classroom, I focus on creating an environment where every child feels safe to learn and actively engages in-class activities.

This is done partly through fostering a growth mindset in my students, helping them to understand the importance of effort and challenging ourselves, that failures can be opportunities to learn and succeed, and the power of "yet."

My Project

These math, literacy, and SEL materials will be incredible assets for our classroom, whether they are implemented during learning stations or small group instruction. The SEL grab write cards will provide students with daily opportunities to reflect on their emotions and describe their experiences involving different skills such as empathy, persistence, and mindfulness. The write and wipe number lines will help students work on fractions, decimals, and rounding. The fluency phones will help students to strengthen their oral reading skills and build comprehension. The students will use the double dice for a variety of math games.

My students will be able to use these highly engaging learning materials independently, with partners, and in small groups as they practice math concepts, improve their understanding of literacy skills, develop self regulation strategies, and celebrate diversity.
