"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." This ancient proverb holds true for my students and aptly describes their thirst for knowledge beyond the four walls of the classroom.
Our school is in an impoverished neighborhood, and most of the students are from low-income families.
I teach the Gifted and Talented students in grades 1-5. My students are excited, motivated and have great personalities, and they never cease to amaze me with their positive attitudes. Our class motto is: "Every day is a great day to learn something new!"
My Project
Teaching gifted students is not as easy as it may seem. It is a constant challenge keeping up with their brilliant minds and having these tablets will open up many avenues to stimulate these bright minds. Most of my students do not have a computer at home, and they are limited in the amount of research they can do in the classroom. We currently have only a few computers with broken headphones available to 28 students. Having these tablets will allow me to create a technology center for my students to do project-based learning, aligned to the gifted curriculum. My students will be able to create their own PowerPoint presentations and Excel worksheets, as well as conduct independent research for science fair projects and other class assignments. Their thirst for knowledge is ongoing and having these tools would effectively address their learning needs.
Your donations to our project will have a huge impact in our classroom.
Now my students will be able to express their creativity and have access to more media-based learning. Imagine having your second or third grade child creating their very own PowerPoint or Excel worksheet, and what an advantage that would give them at such an early age in a world where technology rules. Your donations will change their lives for the better as they will be more prepared for the challenges ahead.
