My students need 30 book boxes for their Daily 5 reading-to-self rotation and an adjustable dry erase easel for whole-group, small-group, and individual instruction.
"Start everyday with the belief that something wonderful is about to happen"- Unknown
I want my students to leave my classroom at the end of the school year more confident, better readers and writers, and have a positive image of themselves and reading.
This August 20-25 second graders will enter my classroom with many different learning abilities.
These students all come from different home lives, backgrounds, and education. My school is in a very rural location with approximately 600 students. The school has many students who come from military families, which means for a high turn over in students. These students are eager to learn and ready to apply their knowledge from their previous year. It is my job to make sure they are fluent readers when they leave my classroom at the end of the year and are more than ready for third grade. I hope to motivate those students who do not like school, encourage those who do, and grow each and every one of those students.
My Project
I have asked for 30 bankers file boxes in assorted colors. These boxes will be used to hold their good fit books, reading materials, and readers interactive notebooks. These book boxes will be used during reading small groups and the Daily Five: read to self rotation. I have asked for 30 boxes because I am unsure of how many students I will have this fall, I know it will be 20-25 and a few extra for those bound to break.
I have asked for a magnetic dry erase adjustable easel for my classroom. This easel will be used during whole group instruction in ALL subject areas, small group instruction during both reading and math with the help of being able to lower the legs to sit on the table, and I can even use it for individual instruction. This easel also allows me to clip process charts and posters on it for easy reference to other instructional materials.
Your donation will help to improve my classroom to encourage silent reading and keep individual books safe.
Too many times students took books off my bookshelf only to find that it had fallen off their desk and was placed back on the bookshelf. The book boxes will encourage a sense of individual reading as well as keep things organized for center rotations. Your donation will also help to provide instruction on students eye level and ease of access to the dry erase board, as well as mobility.
