Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Working with 8:1:1 and 12:1:1 bilingual special needs students who are both verbal and non-verbal, I am constantly looking for new methods to expand on what we do in speech therapy. My students struggle greatly with comprehension of wh- questions, sequencing, and identifying elements of a story. They also struggle with communicating their needs, expressing their emotions, and identifying social scenarios within their communities.
Having access to new sequencing cards, story-telling activities, and social skills activities along with snacks and toys to grant positive reinforcement will be huge for my students' everyday interaction skills in their community!
Recently, I was able to expand on my bilingual library for my students. My wish now is to expand on the tools available to expand on skills like story telling, sequencing, and question comprehension. I also want them to understand everyday skills for when they are in the community and interacting with others. They will expand on their social skills and how they express their feelings in public.
