My Students

Hello there! It's a brand new year and I have a whole class of new 5-6 year olds. Most of my students in my class are 5 years old or have just turned 6, and for some, this is their first experience in a school setting. I am excited to learn new things about each child in my class this year.

Our school is a rural, low income school, and we would like to start using guided reading groups in our classroom.

We are hoping to purchase new Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading books that are engaging to students with colorful pictures and that are relevant to students today.

My Project

My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interests of my students. Students in my classroom like to read books that have situations they can relate to during guided reading groups. My school doesn't have a large collection of books to use for leveled guided reading groups, so I would like to have books that are leveled so that each kid is getting a specialized reading group for their level.

Guided reading groups are a great way to do small group instruction based on the child's level of reading and understanding.

By having these leveled readers, I will be able to better serve my students so they find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment! Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is perfect way to build better readers.
