My students need an iPad with protective case. This will enable us to have the best quality and latest technology to study, publish and explore all available arenas of learning.

My Students

I teach a group of 25 highly motivated second graders who are eager to learn and explore. They live in a very dangerous blight-filled city where high crime and high poverty have been the norm for more than a decade. Most of them come from single-parent households and many have experienced homelessness; however, they are high-spirited and excited about learning. My class is the largest class in the building and has the highest attendance rates in the school. Rarely is anyone absent because they are passionate about learning.

Puppet shows, songs, dancing and rapping are often incorporated into varied areas of instruction.

Our classroom is never boring and my students are always ready to learn. Their enthusiasm is contagious. Smiles and laughter greet me in the morning and close out my afternoons. It is a pleasure to teach such an awesome group of students. Truly they are my inspiration.

My Project

My students will benefit from the faster and more efficient use of graphics and computer applications available with the iPad. My students love to write and draw. In fact, our new Math curriculum requires students to read, write and draw. With the requested technology, we would be able to publish our work, add depth to our research, track projects, provide access to an enormous pool of educational sites and gain access to apps that were off-limits to us. The need for diversified centers clearly supports the need for creative and innovative instructional techniques for my students. While our chances may look dim, my students are helpful and have not given up hope. They are telling everyone about our project and we are hoping someone will help. There is a very apparent hunger for technology in our classroom which cannot be filled because of two broken Smartboards. We have been hoping for repairs, but recently learned this was not an option. Please help us meet the NEED.
