I work with an amazing group of students with mild to moderate disabilities. They are eager to learn, driven and determined, pushing through their adverse deficits to feel successful. They are a true inspiration and a joy to teach.
My students are confronted with adverse cognitive deficits, affecting their ability to learn and function; which can be truly devastating, hindering their self-esteem and desire to learn.
Yet, my students persevere. They are full of determination. These do not allow those deficits or their disability to define who they are or their capabilities. Instead, their hard work, determination, and desire to succeed drive their motivation to push through those adverse challenges.
Additionally, what makes my students even more amazing how they love and support their peers. When one student is feeling incompetent and wants to give up, the rest of the group is right there to support them through that challenging process. As a team, we celebrate even the slightest growth because for them, it is huge.
My Project
My students are significantly below grade level in all academic areas. The materials that I am requesting will be utilized to support areas of academic needs and build necessary foundational skills.
These students are taught the core content curriculum and require these foundational skills to continue to grow and feel successful.
However, they have the motivation, determination, and eagerness to grow; these materials are a huge part of what they need to support support their ability to feel successful. The guided reading books will enhance literacy, comprehension, and overall stability and independence when functioning out in their community. The math materials will continue to enhance and build number sense, so these students can continue to grow and build confidence inside the classroom and out in the community.
