This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom consists of 8 students with various disabilities who are all at different skill levels. My students, like all students with disabilities, are most successful & thrive when learning is hands-on and highly engaging. Often this requires resources tending to many different learning styles.
As previously mentioned, I currently teach a self-contained 8:1:1 class consisting of students with special needs in grades K-2.
While some of my students might be emergent readers, others might not be able to identify the letters of the alphabet. The students in my class might be classified within a certain grade, but their skill levels are usually drastically below where they should be according to their age. Compared to a typical classroom, due to their disabilities, my students require learning at a slower pace with more one to one instruction and reinforcement.
My Project
Often times, many educational resources (puzzles, games, etc.) are geared towards one specific skill or task. Since all 8 of my students are at different skill levels, it makes it hard to purchase products that will be beneficial to each of them. By having a classroom i-Pad, each of my students will be able to work on skills at their individual levels while making learning fun and motivating. I plan to have a wide range of apps with folders for each student containing both rigorous and appropriate activities specifically for their skill set. In addition, when spending time providing 1:1 instruction geared towards each student's individual goals, it means I cannot tend to the other 7 students in my class for the time being. The rest of my students will either be working in a small group setting run by a classroom paraprofessional or within classroom centers where they can function independently. Here, an i-Pad would keep them engaged while still providing as a great educational tool.
To my students, and all students with disabilities, support means the world.
We thank you in advance for helping to make our classroom more resourceful and engaging. I know for a fact my students will be more than excited when they are able to earn time on our i-Pad.
